What is a True Company?
True Companies is Beauhurst's way of representing real-world businesses; consolidating data from across legal entities, official registers, IP and innovation databases, public funding databases, news sources, company websites and more into one coherent, comprehensive profile.
A True Company is defined as an active, operating business: an organisation with its own identity, operations, and agency. Not a holding company with no employees, not a dormant shell, not a pension trustee. The common-sense test is straightforward; does this organisation have its own people, its own operations, its own brand? If yes, it's a True Company. This definition determines what gets consolidated and what gets separated.

How to use the True Company API
1: Find the right True Companies
Search
Use the True Company Search endpoint to find the right True Company using the company name, website or registration number. This returns the matching results with the True Company ID to be used other endpoints to get more data on the company.
Collections
You can access your Beauhurst collections through the API to find which companies meet your search criteria or are in your lists. To find the right collection, use the Collection List endpoint and filter by True Companies and see the collections, when they were made and who by. Use this collection ID in the True Company Collection endpoint to find the True Companies in that collection as well as which have been added or updated recently.
True Company ID
Searching for companies or finding ones in collections will return a True Company ID. This is a unique ID which can be used in the all of the True Company endpoints to return data on that company.
2: Get the right data
Use the True Company ID in the True Company endpoints to get detailed data on the company.
True Company Summary returns key classification data including:
- Registration date
- Beauhurst URL to find the True Company on the platform
- Employee count range
- Stage of evolution
- Industries and Buzzwords
- Growth, Innovation, ESG and Risk Signals
- Target markets
- Transaction summary
- Head office and registered addresses
- Social and contact information
- Latest financials summary
True Company Financials returns the financial statements which can be filtered by the date of the accounts. This includes all of the filed financial fields including:
- Profit & Loss
- Balance Sheet
- Capital and reserves
- Cash flow
True Company Fundraisings returns a list of the funding a company has raised which can be filtered by the date it was raised. This includes:
- The date of the funding
- How much was raised
- Pre and post money valuations
- If the funding was announced or unannounced
- The purpose and type of fundraising
- Investors
- Status of the funding
- Turnover multiples
- Advisors
True Company Grants returns a list of the grants a company has received which can be filtered by the date granted. This includes:
- The date of the grant
- How much was received
- The stage of evolution of the company when the grant was given
- The grant project
- Granting body and funders
True Company Patents returns a list of the patents awarded to the company which can be filtered by the date the patent was filed. This includes:
- Patent title
- Patent code
- Classification
- Filing date
- Where it was filed
- Abstract
True Company Corporate Structure returns the connected companies in the structure including:
- The ultimate parent company
- The immediate parent company
- A list of the immediate child companies which return their child companies covering the subsidiary structure
True Company Shareholders returns all shareholders across their filings which can be filtered by the date of the annual return. For each shareholder this includes:
- The shareholder name
- Annual return date
- Share class
- Number of shares
- Share class percentage
- Total share percentage
- Estimated paper worth
True Company Key People returns a list of the C-suite, board members and other senior leadership at the company. This can be filtered by if they are currently active, if they are a founder and by their function.
True Company Directors returns a list of the directors of the company which can be filtered by if they are currently active.
